RULES & Eligibility

All contestants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Writers, directors, filmmakers or producers with an authentic perspective who pursue their own creative voice and vision.

  2. Submit an application that includes:

    • Contact information

    • Viewing link to your short film (<20 minutes) or PDF to your script (20 pages or less)

    • Briefly describe your connection to Florida

    • Briefly describe how you will be using the grant

    • Pay an application fee of $25 (check FilmFreeway for discounts)

  3. The entrant must be 18 years or older.

We understand storytellers come from various backgrounds, levels of expertise, and genres.

Judges will look for storyteller’s who are committed to three tenets:

  • Pursue their own creative voice

  • Invoke emotional responses from the readers (fear, laughter, sadness, angst, etc.)

  • Value the importance of pacing to keep readers engaged

Things to keep in mind:

  • We do not retain any rights to the short film

  • Directing teams can submit a script, but only the one submitter will receive the cash prize

  • Judges are not made aware of the submitter’s name

  • Answers to how the grant will be spent are not included in the judging process

  • The selected winner may be asked to show proof to ensure they meet the following criteria
