Charts have always been fascinating to me, maybe because they are a cool definition of Clarity or maybe because I’m not very good at making them. I love how you can piece huge chunks of information that would otherwise cause some sort of Information overload in your head on a normal day, into one marvelous digestible diagram. So when I discovered Michelle Rial’s work, I was stupefied. Her work is so marvelous!
Michelle Rial takes everyday scenarios and created charts and graphs out of them. She pieces information together in ways that are beyond the ordinary. Michelle takes pictures of items and draws charts into/around them, making a whole new information image entirely.
From the mundane to the hilarious, to the cynical, Michelle Rial’s charts give new lives to objects, thoughts, moments and situations. Her charts are graphical, still-life sitcoms.
Michelle Rial’s charts have been featured in USA Today, Fast Company Co.Design, Vox, Vulture, Mental Floss, A.V. Club, Bustle, Mashable, and more.
She has bylines in BuzzFeed, Refinery29, Glamour, and The Bold Italic. She has also made visual content for techies, public radio junkies. Plus weird mashups of Lululemon and Liz Lemon, Gossip Girl and Lion King, Daria and Fashion Week, Kanye West and Dr. Bronner’s soap, and translated the wealth of tech CEOs and Apple into something more graspable (burritos).
