Kenyan Artist, Linda Kemoli and Her Bold Black Women Empowering Art

By March 16, 2020 No Comments

Linda Kemoli’s art is a pure, powerful alignment with mother nature and a showcase of women in that element of power. Her drawings and paintings reflect the queen in women, using bold colors to hone in on the features that stand out.
She uses intense background colors to gloriously sing forth the praise of women in artwork and we absolutely love it!

A Kenyan illustrator, graphics facilitator and founder of Keeke Art, Linda Kemoli holds a Master of Arts degree in Illustration from the University of Portsmouth, the U.K, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is enthusiastic about converting her artistic ability from a tool of expression to one capable of creating and spreading positive vibes so that her work can not only be seen but felt as well.

Linda tells the story of the power of art in her life and how art helped her overcome racism in her early childhood.
“As a young child, I encountered harsh racism at my kindergarten and felt incredibly isolated, being the only black child in my class. I spent a lot of time on my own during that period and the one thing that brought me joy and happiness was creating art. After school, I would rush home and immediately pull out my art supplies and draw cartoon characters from the Disney movies I loved watching. Before I knew it, this became a daily habit and eventually, the teachers and students began discovering the talent I never really knew I had and their intrigue with my work somehow made them more inquisitive about me as a person. Before long, I had a bunch of friends whom I could sit in class with, have lunch with and play with and Race was no longer a wall that separated us from one another. We finally realized that we are all people with something unique and beautiful to offer to the world and for me, that unique thing has been art.”

There is something about Linda Kemoli’s work that makes you feel empowered as a woman, a black girl and a champion of women’s awesomeness. Her work is pure light and beauty.
