The Myma Art Prize (MAP) is a bold new platform celebrating the next generation of visual artists from Ghana and Nigeria. Named in honor of Dr. Myma Belo-Osagie (renowned lawyer, art collector, and patron) and endowed by her children, the prize offers more than funding: it offers a journey.

Each year, MAP will identify and support early to mid-career artists. MAP will provide a virtual artist development program, high-profile group exhibition for finalists, and physical residency in Benin, Nigeria, for the grand prize winner.

Coordinated by Metis Capital Partners and curated by Ugonna Ibe of Yenwa Gallery, the Myma Art Prize is designed for lasting impact. Selections will be made by a rotating panel of artists, curators, and scholars drawn from West Africa and the diaspora, with the aim of launching careers and shaping the future of contemporary African art.

Prizes and Programming

1. Artist Development Program (Longlist)
12–15 selected artists take part in a virtual artist development program with workshops, peer critiques, curatorial sessions, and storytelling development. This phase strengthens practice and prepares artists for the next stage.

2. Mentorship & Exhibition Prep (Shortlist)
3-5 shortlisted artists are supported with curatorial guidance, production assistance, and mentorship as they develop or prepare a work for the group exhibition.

3. Group Exhibition (Finalists)
Finalists present their work in a high-profile group show in Lagos or Accra. The exhibition includes artist talks, media coverage, and public programming in partnership with a leading gallery.

4. Physical Residency ( Winner)
The Grand Prize winner receives a 3-month residency in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. Runners-up and the Women’s Prize winner also receive tailored mentorship and visibility opportunities.
