How can you be an artist and not reflect the times? – Ife Aminu
There’s a dichotomy of perspectives on the current economic situation in Nigeria, but one thing that easily rears its head above intellectual or social differences is that a large chunk of the populace are not pleased.
Ife Aminu is Nigerian, and perhaps shares this same feeling of displeasure with other citizens but has chosen to channel hers as art and humour; believe me when I say it is downright refreshing. Check out this illustration by Ife Aminu
To fully relish the humour of this illustration , you would have to either be Nigerian or you followed closely the past presidential campaign activities, particularly of the current ruling party in Nigeria. Even if you don’t fall into either of these categories, you would agree with me that her illustrations have a unique appeal to the eyes and spark a ton of curiousity around the story she’s trying to tell
Make no mistake her versatility is beyond political jabs, she truly is an artist that understands the times and does a fantastic job at reflecting in a refreshingly humorous way. Here’s another illustration from the religious celebration of Christians – Easter. She completed this with her friends at Syracuse Africa
