Tennis is a Relationship: A Spotlight on Yoon Ambush’s Curation for the US Open

Do you know this line from the tennis-themed movie ‘Challengers’ where Tashi Donaldson, played by Zendaya said:

“Tennis is a relationship…we understood each other completely. So did everyone watching. It’s like we were in love.”

This statement by the lead actor Zendaya Coleman while embodying the character of Tashi Donaldson – the obsessive tennis player turned coach – successfully made me more curious about tennis than the flight of green balls in the air from one court end to another at any tennis tournament. Someone would say it’s better to have watched a good number of tennis matches to confidently make that comparison, but I said what I said. Lol

Besides, this article is not about the movie – Challengers, neither is it about tennis, well, not entirely. I’ll allow the picture below sink into your creative mind for a minute and speak volumes for itself.

Not sure what that felt like for you, but if you’re thinking what I’m thinking then, Yes!

Tennis Fashion has become transcendent !!!

In the words of the Nike Global Women’s Curator, Yoon Ahn Ambush

Often, we see athletes as one-dimensional, tied to their sport, but I get to peel back those layers and explore the different facets of who they are and how they want to present themselves through style.

That’s exactly what this article is about LAYERS!! Layers of beautiful fabric, color and tulle skirts reflecting the layered narrative of an athlete’s personality. It’s truly never one-dimensional.

Although, I didn’t get to watch Naomi Osaka’s game live at the US Open in August but, from the snippets circulating the web, my imagination didn’t do an injustice to how beautifully contrasting the bow and tulle skirt on sporty-like fabric would look on a vast green court and its white-lined demarcations.

So this feature celebrates not just fashion. but the romance between tennis, fashion and storytelling. Much more the creative mind behind the scene curating the magic that makes on-scene moments memorable.

And memorable asides audacious and breathtaking, is definitely one word that sticks after watching Naomi glammed in a stand-out bow and a dazzling tulle skirt, playing a sport she really loves and need I say, is ridiculously great at. Big ups to Yoon Ambush, the creative sage that served the whole world this deliciously curated delight through the Nike brand platform.

Beautiful! Beautiful!! Beautiful!!!
