We just love it when black women have awesome visual representation in different fields! Like the beautiful ballerina art and illustrations by Boston-based Artist, Thato Mwosa.
Thato Mwosa is a wife, mother and an artist who was inspired to make her own illustrations after finding that black/brown ballerina art was scarce while trying to decorate her daughter, Tuli’s bedroom.
Thato Mwosa’s Afrik Art series features black women wearing bold and vibrant Afro-centric fabric. In these Afrik illustrations, she tries to capture the beauty of a modern cosmopolitan Afro-centric woman who is sophisticated, fierce and is not afraid of expressing herself in bold colors. The designs are intricate patterns that embody the Afropolitan essence.
