21 African Creative Women: Suubi Njuki

Suubi Njuki is a fashion designer based in Kampala Uganda with a degree in art and industrial design with fashion as one of her electives. Her fashion journey started at an internship with a fashion brand called Samaki and from there managed to get a job in the fashion industry and got mentors as well. This further affirmed her decision to fully pursue fashion as a full-time career. Suubi’s main focus is ladies’ wedding and bridal party, evening wear but also occasionally makes other types of clothes depending on demand.

What drives her to keep going?
Suubi’s desire to create beauty, instill self-confidence in her clients especially about their appearance and the fact that she has something to say is what motivates her.
Also, just the need to make a living because the industry as it is in Uganda can be heart-wrenching and one can be up against so much sometimes the need to pay bills is all that motivates you.

What legacy/mark does she want her work to leave?
Excellence “who doesn’t want this?”
Teamwork because this removes limits and impossibilities and enhances creativity.
Satisfaction in her clients for work well done.
