The Art of Sharing with the Ones You Love | Annette Kariuki

“Letting out whatever is in your heart is the best way to heal.” I nearly lost a friend who was suffering inside. She was facing personal issues which had affected her for a long time. Little did we know how she felt until she started sharing with us. My other friend and I were speechless but in all; we stood by her.

One thing got engraved into my mind after this incidence -that sharing is caring and it entails opening up to those individuals who are close to you. This can be friends, relatives, etc who are closest to you.

Counseling and sharing, as a Creative person, with others, is a great step towards healing. Never despise these 2 no matter what. You can try either one of them and see how it goes.

Trust me, sharing is a great step towards healing internally. You might not realize it right now but it will reveal itself eventually. Personally, I have been there and it is not a walk in the park. There are fears within but with a strong circle of friends plus prayer, you will forge many steps ahead.

Each one of us is different with diverse talents and experiences but that does not mean you suffer inside. Seek to establish a close group of individuals whom you will confide in. It does not necessarily have to be a parent. There can be other people whom you feel comfortable talking to. Seek to bring them into your life.

Do not be in a hurry to seek one, you can take your time. There are individuals who are not able to keep secrets so it’s best to make a wise decision on this one.

Sadly, our current generation is facing a lot than you could have ever imagined. Most of the youth are opting to seek out from faceless individuals rather than physical friends.

Then the next thing you hear is that a particular individual X is no more. All this points out that he or she was suffering inside yet nobody had no idea about it.

I fault our society and what it has become. Rarely do you find a whole family and friends sitting down to discuss a particular issue. Mostly, they are either on their phones keeping tabs on what is happening externally.

I acknowledge the few families who are able to sit down and have a chat. They have set aside time to converse and share how their day was plus discuss other issues. It is quite rare, especially in this 21st century.

The strong chain which was there between our families and those close to us has been broken. Gone were the days when one would sit down and one would have a pressing issue and one would be heard. Nowadays, it is quite difficult to find those rare gems who will sacrifice their all to listen.

Thus, the power of listening in a particular motivational book proved to me how essential it is to listen to another individual. It taught me how it is worth listening rather than ignoring or interrupting someone.

Try at least every day to give a listening ear to someone. You never know what he or she is facing inside that prompted him or her to share with you. Be willing to listen no matter how long it may take. Sometimes, it may be irrelevant but that does not give you the chance to ignore. He or she may be putting a point across to say something indirectly.

This generation we are living is `silent’ whereby the phones do the talking but not the physical means. Most individuals are opting to share via social media rather than talk about it.

Let us try to embrace that art always as mental health is proving worse nowadays.
