Film Making Workshop for Artists and Film Creatives

As a film creative, you have a chance to participate in ‘Our Futures’, a gamification-powered film & arts program designed by Bounce Cinema & Retro Africa.

20 film and video artists (10 from the UK and 10 from Nigeria) will take part in a virtual training program together in a free microfilm school supported by the British Council, fostering digital exchange between artists from Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The program intends to enhance the learning opportunities available within the Black British and African arts & film industry. Through our online residency program, we will provide people with resources and opportunities to benefit from a global art network and encourage digital exchange. Participants and audiences will complete a series of innovative tasks to unlock training opportunities, exclusive content & virtual experiences. This is to increase participation & digital exchange between artists & communities across the UK & Nigeria.

Who we are

Retro Africa is a contemporary art gallery based in Abuja, Nigeria, that was created in 2015 as a community of art enthusiasts, curators, and collectors, headed by founder and creative director Dolly Kola-Balogun.

Retro Africa’s curatorial program continues to highlight the depth and breadth of contemporary African art within Nigeria and the international art scene. We put an emphasis on exhibitions, international art fairs, and intra-gallery curatorial collaborations in cities such as New York, Cape Town, Marrakech, Lagos, and London. Our ethos is also centered on a desire to explore local stories, re-contextualize the African individual in the modern era, retrieve lost communitarian heritage, and highlight the ever-overlooked African narrative within history and within the afro-futuristic imagination.

Our aim is to spread awareness and encourage a cycle of growth and learning within African art in our quest to provide a platform for emerging and established contemporary artists.
