In this position, you will conduct rapid User Experience research using tools like UserZoom to provide insights to help teams build better user experiences. You will do various types of testing, such as moderated and unmoderated usability testing, click testing, card sorting, and tree studies, depending on the needs of individual projects. Your work will improve the user experience of technology products at various development stages, and you will have a global impact.
You will be part of a central User Research team in VMware Design that supports many product teams. Others have been focusing on research strategy, and your job will be to complement what they are doing with more hands-on testing of existing and proposed products and features. You will leverage your skills to define how your work is done and showcase the value your work provides. This is a Senior position because we seek someone with proven expertise in rapid User Experience testing who can be a solid role model and advocate for the importance of doing it. Your job will include sharing your best practices with researchers and designers across VMware to enable them to conduct rapid UX studies successfully.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Within 3 months
– Set up the structure and processes you need to efficiently conduct effective User Experience studies using UserZoom and other tools. You will focus on rapid techniques, such as moderated and unmoderated usability testing, click testing, card sorting, and tree studies, depending on the needs of individual projects. The goal will be to be quick yet provide helpful findings.
– Begin conducting rapid User Experience studies for teams that require this type of support.
– Provide office hours for people seeking advice.
Within 6 months
– Conduct multiple studies per month that efficiently deliver results for teams that need rapid UX research and testing support.
– Offer the templates and best practices you use to others who would benefit from conducting similar studies.
– Provide metrics showcasing the impact you are having.
Within a year
Your work will be sought after and readily acknowledged for the value it provides for delivering more predictably positive user experiences.

This role will report to Mary Lee, the Head of User Research in VMware Design. She focuses on building an environment where people work together to achieve great things. VMware Design has over 200 UX professionals, including researchers and designers, who are encouraged to do research that considers users’ perspectives throughout the design and development lifecycle. We cover a wide range of external and internal products, both existing products and new areas. It’s a dynamic place full of caring people.
Where is this role located?
This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable, or the location agreed upon with your hiring manager. You will be expected to live within four time zones from your team as defined by your business. The current team is spread throughout the United States.
