The Stanford Digital Economy Lab seeks an experienced content writer to help us communicate our work to a wider audience. In this role, you’ll analyze, contextualize, and tell the story of Stanford’s research on the digital economy while connecting our research to real-world impacts, news, and happenings.

Our readers are informed, tech-savvy, and econ-savvy. The ideal candidate for this position must be, too. You keep up with the latest news and trends in technology and the digital economy.

Your content voice, like our audience, is curious.

Your content tone is confident yet approachable, candid with a bit of wit thrown in.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Produce one feature article (approximately 1000-1500 words) per month focused on a newsworthy issue about the digital economy. We’ll post and promote the article across several of our communication channels, such as Medium. Our team will work directly with you to brainstorm ideas and will serve as your editorial resource.
  • Produce two articles per month (maximum of 400 words each) for our bimonthly newsletter, the DigDig. These articles are typically a quick take on recent research, Lab-sponsored seminars, or a newsworthy topic related to the digital economy. Our team will work directly with you to brainstorm ideas and will serve as your editorial resource.

These responsibilities are subject to change based on the Lab’s marketing and communications needs.

Potential reach
Your work will be featured on the Lab’s website and social channels, as well as on channels owned by our parent, the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). In 2020, more than 9.5 million accounts viewed posts by HAI. Together, the Lab and HAI have more than 30k subscribers on their combined email lists. Additionally, Lab director Erik Brynjolfsson has nearly 195,000 followers on Twitter.
